Hosting an Apartment Movie Night

Hosting an Apartment Movie Night

It’s safe to say you consider yourself a bit of a film buff, what with the ‘Star Wars’ memorabilia and vintage ‘Godfather’ poster highlighting the walls of your new apartment.  But now that you’ve finally purchased the surround sound / flatscreen entertainment system of your dreams for your apartment living room, how best to kickoff your new setup in style? How about by hosting a theme movie night?

First things first – you’re going to want to pick your genre. The choices are as limitless as your imagination…or at least your DVD collection. If horror films are something you want to stick your fangs into, try hosting a zombie-themed ‘Night of the Living Dead’ marathon. Spruce things up with some ‘brain punch’, or give out prizes for the best undead garb. Gangster nights can also be a ‘blast’; try following up a showing of ‘Scarface’ with a late night poker tournament (all in good fun of course!). Try whipping up a classic Italian appetizer menu for your guests for that authentic feel of the old country.

Sometimes the films can be a super fun addition to a party, rather than the entire event. Try hosting an 80’s bash in your new apartment (complete with fashion and new wave tunes of course!), with classics such as ‘Pretty in Pink’ and ‘The Breakfast Club’ in effect on your big screen. If you really want to go for a unique screening, try renting a wall projector for the evening – your guests can dance the night away to the Thompson Twins while watching a life-sized Molly Ringwold pine for the high school dreamboat.

Decorations can add to the fun (try covering your ceiling in glow-in-the-dark removable stars for your next sci-fi trilogy!), and for a ‘reel’ treat try staging a 3-D marathon (‘Jaws’ and ‘Friday the 13th’ both have in-your-face sequels available on DVD!). Regardless of whether you go for a full-fledged red carpet-worthy gala, or just have a few pals over to hang in the comfy confines of your new apartment theater room, odds are good your movie party will earn a standing ovation.
